Research Throughout Medical Education
Progress in science and technology needs multidisciplinary approaches in healthcare and medical education. In this regard, up-to-date scientific knowledge provided by translational research appears to be an essential part of medical practice. Therefore, we are constructing a medical education and research infrastructure accordingly. By the successful completion, the system will meet the needs of today's modern medical practice model including the preventive, predictive, and personalized approach components also designed to allow students to improve their learning skills efficiently.
Additionally, via a holistic approach, we aim to contribute to the well-being of individuals and communities. Within this concept, healthy aging and senescence, oncology, regenerative medicine and cardiovascular diseases are among the primary research areas of interest.
The research contributes to the development of values, such as internal discipline, commitment, and the ability to collaborate with colleagues, which are important in the clinical field. Conducting research in early years of education, not only gives students a systematic way of thinking but also allows students to meet the concept of "ethics", which is an important component of medical research in advance. The "Academic Research Track" program is structured for the students who want to improve themselves in the research area.
Today, medical practice is carried out in an evidence-based manner. The research process allows students to critically assess and examine the clinical significance of scientific literature besides expanding their perspective. Considering the impact of scientific research, we aim to support the developmental processes of our students ranging from scientific thinking to clinical decision-making, by the "Research and Information Management" component of our curriculum.
Lifelong learning is important for rapidly evolving medical practice. We have designed a comprehensive curriculum to ensure that our graduates become physicians who can integrate current clinical and scientific knowledge with their practical skills, dealing with patients and their families as well as their colleagues professionally. With the help of hands-on training in research, the students may make a substantial contribution to medical practice.
