Course Objectives In this course, students will learn; the structure and functions of male and female reproductive systems, pregnancy and birth processes, embryonic and fetal developmental characteristics, structure and function of skeletal muscles, types of exercise and their importance for health, organization of the nervous system, development of central and peripheral nervous systems, the structure and functions of nervous system and sensory organs. In the part that deals with the biological basis of human behavior, it is aimed that students comprehend how sensory perception is formed, how motor movement is controlled, how higher cortical functions and learning and memory mechanisms are carried out. In this context, students will learn the structure and functions of the reproductive system, muscle, nervous system and sensory organs, their development, the strategies that the nervous system uses to perceive the inner and outer world and to create appropriate responses and finally to store its experience. In addition, it is aimed to comprehend neural transmission mechanisms, structures, classifications, receptors, signal transmission pathways and metabolism of neurotransmitters and neuromodulators.
            Learning Outcomes

            The students who succeeded in this course;

            • 1. Explain the development, structural and functional properties of the male and female reproductive systems.
            • 2. Explain embryonic and fetal development, and the mechanisms of postnatal changes.
            • 3. Explain the properties of bone tissue and the factors affecting mechanisms of construction-destruction cycle.
            • 4. Explain the development, structural and functional al properties of muscles.
            • 5. Explain the organization, development, cells and their functions and the signaling mechanisms of the nervous system.
            • 6. Describe the parts of peripheral nervous system, explain their structure and functions.
            • 7. Describe the parts of the central nervous system, explain their structure and functions.
            • 8. Explain the structures and divisions of the autonomic nervous system, and list and compare structures and effects of its neurotransmitters.
            • 9. Describe the development, structural and functional properties of sensory organs.
            • 10. Explain how the movement takes place with its related structures and functions.
            • 11. Explain the states of consciousness and wakefulness and how they are regulated by the nervous system.
            • 12. List the limbic system structures and explain their functions.
            • 13. Integrate neuroendocrine system functions with the concept of homeostasis.
            • 14. Explain the formation of pain and systems that control pain with their molecular mechanisms.
            • 15. Establish a relationship between structure, function and clinical findings according to the circulatory characteristics of the central nervous system.
            • 16. Describe neurobiological basis and development of behavior.
            • 17. Describe the features of viruses and explain the effects of microorganisms on the nervous system.
            • 18. Apply how to collect, summarize, display and interpret data.
            • 19. Define the immune related mechanisms of reproductive and nervous systems.
            • 20. Evaluate her/his self from certain perspectives, identify her/his strengths and weaknesses, and create a development plan for her/his aspects that need improvement.
Course Description In this course, the structure and functions of the male and female reproductive systems, pregnancy and birth processes, the characteristic features of embryonic and fetal developmental stages, structure and functions of the skeletal muscles and joints, types of exercise and their impact on health, the organization of the nervous system, the embryological development of central and peripheral nervous systems, structures and functions of the neurons and ganglia, structures and functions of the nervous system divisions and sense organs, the control of sensory perception, motor movement and behavior, higher cortical functions, memory and the mechanisms of learning will be addressed.
