Important guest from Prague at IUE
Prof. Dr. Tomas Zima, Head of the Institute of Medical Biochemistry and Laboratory Medicine and Former Rector of Charles University in Prague, one of the best higher education institutions in Europe, visited Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Faculty of Medicine. During the events held at IUE Medical Point Hospital, Prof. Dr. Zima made presentation to the students on kidney function tests, the future of laboratory medicine, alcohol metabolism and oxidative stress.
After the event, Prof. Dr. Zima met with IUE Rector Prof. Dr. Yusuf Hakan Abacıoğlu, Dean of IUE Faculty of Medicine Prof. Dr. İlgi Şemin, Vice Deans Prof. Dr. İncim Bezircioğlu, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Önder Limon and Medical Director of IUE Medical Point Hospital Prof. Dr. Şükrü Emre. During the meetings, it was decided to expand the cooperation between IUE and Charles University in Prague in the Czech Republic to include students and academics in clinical internships.
WE LAID THE FOUNDATION FOR NEW COOPERATION
Rector Prof. Dr. Abacıoğlu pointed out that Prof. Dr. Zima, who came to Izmir as part of Erasmus and met with the students, is a very experienced and well-known name in his field. Stating that during their meeting with Prof. Dr. Zima, they also evaluated the joint studies that could be carried out in the coming period, Rector Abacıoğlu said, “Charles University in Prague is a highly respected institution, especially in the field of medicine, and stands out with its strong academic structure. Prof. Dr. Zima's visit was very useful in terms of increasing communication between the two universities and laying the foundation for new collaborations. Prof. Dr. Zima also shared valuable information with students and answered their questions. We would like to thank him. We were very happy to have Prof. Dr. Zima here.”

Prof. Dr. Şükrü Emre, Medical Director of IUE Faculty of Medicine Medical Point Hospital, said, “Prof. Zima's visit provided an important opportunity for academic and scientific interaction. His presentations gave our students and academics an international perspective. Expanding the cooperation between the two universities will allow for more student and academic exchanges and the development of joint projects in the future. Such international interactions will help us find more effective solutions to global health problems by expanding the boundaries of medical education and research.”
